Euro-Diploma/ German Master training course, Further Education, Degree Programme for Engineers in Orthopaedic and Rehabilitation Technology, E&Z Department

The Federal Academy for Orthopaedic Technology (BUFA) began its activities in Frankfurt/Main in 1954. Since 1981 the tasks of the BUFA have been carried out in its own building in Dortmund. In 1998 the BUFA was renovated, extended and partly built new.
More than 2000 national and international participants per year are educated in different subjects and topics.

Special Fields of the BUFA
- Euro-/German Master Diploma course
- Further professional education programmes
- Degree Programme for Engineers in Orthopaedic and Rehabilitation Technology (Partner of the University of Applied Sciences in Giessen/Friedberg and in Münster/Steinfurt)
- E&Z (Department of Development and Co-operation)

The Euro/German Master training course is “the heart of the Bufa”. The European Diploma, which can be obtained beside the German Master’s Diploma, certifies that the further professional education in Category 1 corresponds with the fixed criteria of the Joint Education Committee of ISPO and INTERBOR. It is equivalent to the BSc studies at the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow.
The Further professional education programmes, which cover a broad spectrum of Orthopaedic and Rehabilitation Technology, offer training to employees in Orthopaedic Technology on different levels and in different subjects.
The Degree Programme for Engineers in Orthopaedic and Rehabilitation Technology succeeded in linking the scientific manner of studies with activities relating to crafts. The attendance of the BUFA is part of the main study as an integrated component. Scientific problems in Orthopaedic and Rehabilitation Technology can be solved with studies and final diploma projects in the future.
The Department of Development and Co-operation (E&Z) supports O&P training projects in developing and transition countries world-wide on behalf of different governmental and non- governmental organisations. Apart from the planning and evaluation of training projects, short time and long-term experts are sent abroad to secure internationally defined training standards.
